I really like the Advent season for a number of good and holy reasons and at least one somewhat tactical reason. It's a great season of spiritual preparation and renewal as we celebrate the coming of Christ so many years ago and continually in our hearts and homes. It is a time of abundance and generosity as we learn to dig deeply into our precious purses and busy schedules to join with family and friends in sharing gifts and time. I love Advent also because it is one of the most valuable liturgical seasons for teaching children the virtues of patience and hope. . .and obedience (albeit somewhat coerced in this case)! With the nearing holiday and St. Nick checking his list, a common refrain around here is: "Santa is watching." Hence, this morning's breakfast exchange.
Me: Son, you need to obey and finish your breakfast. *Santa is watching* Are you being a good boy?
Him: Is Santa being a good boy?
