My sister and her groom had most of their pictures made before the actual wedding Mass, before guests arrived. First, it was just easier that way. And furthermore, it is a blatant rejection of all things superstitious.
Before the cameras started flashing, the two had a special moment together in the church, while all of the wedding party waited in the vestibule and/or bride's room. As my sister left her bridesmaids, her dear friends began weeping together, lavishing their tender tears upon the sweetness of the moment.
Disgusted by this display, one of my two ring bearing sons, who found himself locked in a small make-shift confessional/bride's room with half a dozen weepy women is legended to have loudly interjected upon assessing the waterworks. . ."(audible sigh) Well, we all look just like rats!"
