More work to do. . .

The boys have enjoyed the past week visiting both sets of grandparents, courtesy of about 1300 miles of road trips! That's a lot of interstate mile markers to count. And when not counting mile markers, they found several other activities to amuse and delight. One such activity was a book on CD. The favorite of this week has been a book about a little girl humorously battling her fears of the monster under her bed. . .

This choice was actually a perfect compliment to the stage of life in which No. 2 finds himself at present. As our book on CD clearly communicates, we KNOW that there isn't a monster under anyone's bed. Monsters simply don't exist. And yet, the fears persist, so we picked this story to help our own ongoing battle.

So, earlier today on the last leg of the end-of-the-summer-marathon-vacationing, our CD player was host to the umpteenth playing of Junie B. Jones Has A Monster Under Her Bed. After listening to it this last time the following conversation ensued:

No. 2: That girl shouldn't even be scared, you know.

Me (with joyful encouragement for him to continue on this path): Why, son?

No. 2: Because it's all just pretend.

Me (now knowing in my heart that listening to Junie B. ten zillion times was absolutely the right decision!): You are absolutely right!

No. 2: Yeah. And Monsters are extinct.

Me (not wanting to really go into the whole "dinosaurs are different from monsters" thing): Uh-huh

No. 2: And Jesus will always protect me, anyway.

Me: Totally!

(the carload of us sitting for a moment considering the wondrous accomplishment that has just taken place in our monster battle)

No. 2: And monsters are too big to fit in houses.

Me: *Sigh* (now knowing there is still more work to be done. . .)
