How was the wedding?: Part 4

This installment of "How was the wedding?" deals with the importance of understanding your family tree.

For weeks, nay months, prior to the wedding, my children (especially my oldest son) have been giddy with the prospect of getting a new Uncle Greg out of the deal. The idea of growing our family is always one that delights my children. . .so much so that my 4 year old recently told me in the car that God told him that we are going to have 7 more babies (I haven't gotten that memo just yet, but I didn't immediately wreck the car and nothing is out of the question).

So, with all the extended family in town for the wedding and with all the accompanying introductions--"This is your mom's cousin and her children". . ."Please say hello, this is your grandmother's aunt". . ."Aren't you so happy to meet your Uncle Greg's godmother?"--my children were pretty near heaven as they watched their family tree growing before their eyes. All these people. . .every one of them were newly discovered FAMILY--and we didn't even have to change any of their diapers!!!

As I have said previously, all 3 of our boys were supposed to serve as ring bearers (the youngest getting fired the night of the rehearsal). So, on the day of the wedding the 2 still-employed ring bearers spent a goodly amount of time with 'L.', the flower girl. 'L.' is my sister's groom's second cousin (I think). She is a perfectly sweet little girl who seemed to enjoy her flower girl status and the company of the 2 ring bearers. That triad had absolutely no trouble amusing themselves at they sat shoulder to shoulder to shoulder, sharing the kneeler in the confessional/bride's room in the far back corner of the church.

Therefore, knowing my children's delight in their newly expanded family ties and their immediate affinity for 'L.', I was not at all surprised when my 7 year old pulled me to the side after the wedding and exclaimed. . ."Isn't it great! 'L.' is our new cousin!" It is great. . .we're happy to have her on board! But what did slightly concern me was when this same 7 year old, a few minutes later, inquired quietly, "Does this mean that 'L.' is now Greg's daughter?"
